Addiction is a temperamental beast that can have drastically diverse effects on different people. For those with addictive personalities or a family history of addiction, becoming an addict or addicted to substance abuse is a slippery slope that they easily fall down. For some, letting go of addiction and staying sober doesn’t require as much work as it does for others.
Whatever group you may find yourself a part of, RMC is here to help you regain control of your life with our Self Recovery Detox Team. Learn more about what a detox unit is, the services we provide, and other questions you may have about the care you expect to receive.
What Is a Detox Unit?
An inpatient detoxification unit is a unit located on hospital premises where patients receive around-the-clock care as they go through detoxification. Going through withdrawal from alcohol or prescription drugs is an intense physical and mental experience that can also be dangerous, depending on the substance. The strain on your body only intensifies if you have underlying medical conditions.
At a detox center, patients can have their health needs monitored by doctors and nurses and go through the detox process in a comfortable, supportive environment. Common withdrawal symptoms include:
- Anxiety
- Nausea and vomiting
- Sweating
- Headache
- Insomnia
- High blood pressure
- Fatigue
- Irregular heartbeat
Other Rehab Services
There are also other rehabilitation services available depending on your recovery needs. For those with a stable home life, a strong support system, and no other medical conditions, outpatient detox, where you’re treated during the day and go home at night, may be sufficient.
Residential rehabilitation is another option for addiction. During this rehab service, participants live at a center for 1–3 months as they go through the detox process and take part in individual and group therapy.
What Services Does a Detox Unit Provide?
The Self Recovery Detox Unit at RMC is a comprehensive care center designed to address the physical and psychological aspects of withdrawal. Our experienced medical team provides around-the-clock care tailored to each patient’s needs. This includes medical supervision to manage withdrawal symptoms, medication-assisted treatment for those who need it, and psychological support to overcome the emotional and mental challenges that many undergo with the detoxification process.
How Long Is Detox Unit Treatment?
One of many patients’ first questions is how long they need to stay at the detox unit. Various factors contribute to how long a patient stays at the Detox Unit, including the drug they’re detoxing from, the severity of their withdrawal symptoms, how much medical assistance they require, and how long and how often they use. The general timeframe is five to seven days.
At RMC, we know that everyone’s experience with addiction is different. The doctors, nurses, and counselors create a customized care plan based on each patient’s needs and intake assessment. For some, this includes being prescribed medication to alleviate withdrawal symptoms in addition to individual and/or group therapy.
Instead of focusing on how long they will need to stay at the Detox Unit, we want our patients to concentrate on their recovery as a whole. We strongly emphasize planning patients’ next steps, whether that includes transitioning to an outpatient program or engaging in ongoing therapy. Our goal is to set you up for long-term success. We work closely with each patient to ensure they have a solid, practical plan for continuing their care after detox.
