The DAISY Award

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses ® is an internationally recognized accolade supported by the DAISY Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to acknowledging the exceptional and compassionate care that nurses provide to patients and their families on a daily basis.

The DAISY Foundation was founded in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by his family members. In 1999, Patrick tragically passed away at the young age of 33 due to complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a relatively unknown but not uncommon autoimmune disease. The acronym DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The remarkable care provided by nurses during Patrick’s illness served as the inspiration for these unique awards, designed to express gratitude to nurses who leave a profound impact on the lives of patients and their families.

At RMC Health System and any of our outpatient clinics, patients, their families, and colleagues can nominate nurses for this prestigious honor. A dedicated committee at RMC Health System carefully selects the recipient of The DAISY Award. Throughout the year, we hold celebratory events attended by the awardee’s colleagues, during which the award is presented. Each recipient is honored with a certificate, praising their exceptional nursing skills. The certificate reads: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.” In addition to the certificate, honorees also receive a DAISY Award pin and a sentimental sculpture named “A Healer’s Touch,” meticulously hand-carved by artists from the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.

The BEE Award

In acknowledgment of the vital collaboration between nurses and other healthcare professionals on a daily basis, we proudly recognize dedicated support staff through the esteemed BEE Award. This is an RMC Health System Award.

The BEE Award is an honor bestowed upon individuals at RMC Health System or any of our outpatient clinics who play a crucial role in patient care. This includes professionals such as transporters, visual observation staff, unit secretaries, housekeepers, patient care techs, food and nutrition, and other essential team members.

Just like the DAISY Award, nominations for the BEE Award can be submitted by patients, their families, or colleagues who have witnessed exceptional contributions. A dedicated committee at Regional Medical Center thoughtfully selects the recipients, who are celebrated with the BEE Award throughout the year. Each deserving honoree is presented with a BEE Award pin, an official certificate recognizing their outstanding caregiving.
