What is Hand Therapy?

Hand Therapy is a type of rehabilitation performed by an occupational or physical therapist on patients with conditions affecting the hands and upper extremities. Such therapy is performed by a provider with a high degree of specialization, whom puts forth the effort to enable the patient to return to a productive lifestyle as quickly as possible.

What Does Hand Therapy Provide?

Post-operative Rehabilitation:

  • Reduction of swelling
  • Manage wounds and hypertrophic scars
  • Splint fabrication to protect, rest or increase motion
  • Instruction in home exercise program

Non-operative or Conservative Treatment

  • Splinting for prevention or correction of injury
  • Management of pain (acute or chronic)
