Designated as a Level II Trauma Center, RMC’s Emergency Department provides urgent and critical care for patients suffering from a variety of injuries and illnesses. RMC’s Emergency Room is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by Board Certified Emergency Room physicians, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support and specially trained emergency room nurses and technicians.

As the second busiest Emergency Room in Alabama, RMC in Anniston is also equipped with an on-site rescue helicopter.

Within the Emergency Department in Anniston there are a total of 36 emergency room beds that include:

  • 27 beds for traditional emergency treatment
  • Eight – Quick Care beds to quickly treat patients with minor medical conditions
  • Specially-designed rooms to evaluate and treat patients with behavioral health needs or substance abuse issues and arrange admission or coordinate transfer to Inspire Treatment Services at RMC Jacksonville
  • Trauma bed for trauma patients or patients who have traumatic injuries or illness
  • A trauma/resuscitation bay for trauma patients or patients who need to be resuscitated

To best meet patients’ needs, RMC asks that your visit to our Emergency Department be of an urgent nature or as directed by your doctor. RMC’s Emergency Department in Anniston is located on 10th Avenue East with a separate entrance and parking lot.

Emergency Room Guidelines for Patients and Visitors

  • Access to the treatment areas is limited to ensure patient safety.
  • Cell phones, two-way radios and other electronic devices – even when not in use — are not allowed in the treatment area as they may interfere with monitors and other medical equipment.
  • Children 12 years old and younger are not allowed in the treatment areas unless they are patients.
  • Visitors are not allowed to eat or drink in the treatment area. Visitors may use the snack bar outside the lobby or the cafeteria on the first floor of the hospital.
  • Food and drink may interfere with lab tests and x-rays. Please ask your nurse before you eat or drink.
  • The use of tobacco products is prohibited within RMC owned and leased buildings. In accordance with the requirements as set forth by the Joint Commission all facilities of RMC are smoke-free.
  • Smoking is allowed only in designated areas outside of the facilities. These designated areas are: RMC Main Building (between Women’s & Children’s Pavilion and RMC). Tyler Center, south lawn enclosure, Professional Plaza, blue awning. These areas are the ONLY smoking areas allowed on the RMC campus. Smoking in any other area is not allowed.
  • Each patient is allowed only two visitors while in the treatment area.
  • We provide a family room for family members and visitors of critically ill emergency patients.
  • A private area is available upon request to speak confidentially with a doctor or nurse.
